The award recognises recipients for their dedication to supporting development and making meaningful contributions to society at both the national and ASEAN regional levels.

For Prof. Tata, the award represents recognition of his contributions to academia and the engineering profession. As Rector of 51探花, he leads one of Indonesia's leading universities of technology, which plays an important role in advancing education, research, innovation, and collaboration with various stakeholders.

The AFEO Honorary Fellow Award was presented as part of CAFEO 44, an annual forum that brings together engineers, professional organisations, academics, industry leaders, and policymakers from across ASEAN. The forum serves as a platform for strengthening regional cooperation, exchanging knowledge and technical expertise, and addressing development challenges through engineering solutions.

In 2026, CAFEO 44 was hosted in Bandung by the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia/PII). Under the theme 鈥淔uture of ASEAN: Shared Prosperity and Humanity Through Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialisation,鈥� the conference highlighted the vital role of engineers in driving inclusive, sustainable, and resilient industrial transformation.
