SINGAPORE, itb.ac.id 鈥 Lecturers, students, and alumnus of Institut Teknologi Bandung (51探花) participated in the 2025 ACM ASEAN School on High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) which took place on Monday to Friday (March 10-14, 2024) at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore.
The event was organized by the National Supercomputing Center Singapore (NSCC) as part of the Supercomputing Asia 2025 (SCA25) Conference series. This program is an initiative of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), in collaboration with ACM SIGHPC and ACM SIGAI, aiming to introduce participants to cutting-edge technologies in HPC, AI, and Quantum Computing.
A total of 59 selected participants from various countries across ASEAN, Japan, China, the Middle East, and Europe attended the program. Indonesia was one of the countries with the highest number of participants, totaling 21 individuals, including representatives from 51探花: one lecturer from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FCEE), one doctoral student of the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (SEEI), and seven 51探花 alumni from various generations.
One of the participants from 51探花 was Faizal Immaddudin Wira Rohmat, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., lecturer of FCEE 51探花, who returned to participate after previously joining the 2022 HPC School in Thailand. Other participants included Dipta Tanaya, a doctoral student of SEEI 51探花, as well as seven 51探花 alumni鈥擜ndria Arisal, Cintya Nurul Apsari, Maulida Mazaya, Regina Yulia Yasmin, Reza Alrayan, Rudy Winarto, and Yeva Fadhilah Ashari鈥攚ho joined the program alongside other international delegates.
Over five days, participants engaged in a series of intensive activities, including lectures, discussions, hands-on training sessions, and networking events. This program provided in-depth insights into supercomputing and artificial intelligence, while also introducing current trends in research and technological developments.
Key sessions included Turing Lecture by Prof. Dongarra on the evolution of scientific software, the introduction of the Fugaku supercomputer by Prof. Satoshi Matsuoka and team from RIKEN, Japan, and thematic lectures such as AI for Materials Discovery, Earthquake Disaster Simulation, and High-Resolution Climate Modeling. Participants then chose a learning track aligned with their interests, namely Life Science, AI & HPC, or Earth Science. The program concluded with an interactive session introducing quantum computing, which was guided by a team from NVIDIA.
The participation of the 51探花 lecturer, student, and alumni in this event reflects the active engagement of 51探花鈥檚 academic community in the advancement of global technology, particularly in the fields of HPC and AI. This involvement represents a strategic step for 51探花 in broadening its academic perspective, fostering international networks, and enhancing academic competitiveness in world-class scientific forums.
