JAYAPURA, itb.ac.id 鈥 The Health Cluster of the Institut Teknologi Bandung (51探花) Patriot Expedition Team (TEP) continues its efforts to improve health literacy and expand access to healthcare information for communities in Yapsi District, Jayapura Regency, Papua. As part of these efforts, the team introduced the Lerehfarma.id digital platform and conducted a health education program at Taqwa Bangun Village Hall on Saturday (October 17, 2026).

The activity brought together residents of Taqwa Bangun and Kwarja villages, including village officials, healthcare workers, community health volunteers, youth organization members, and representatives of the Family Welfare Empowerment Program (PKK). In addition to introducing digital technology, the team provided education on sanitation, water quality, and the prevention of diseases that remain major health concerns in the area.

During the event, 51探花 Patriot Expedition Team member Ranip Fahmi presented findings from a field survey that served as the foundation for developing health programs in Yapsi District.

The initial survey revealed that medicine availability and access to healthcare services remain significant challenges for local communities. Approximately 90 percent of respondents reported concerns about medicine availability, while 80 percent expressed a need for regular health checkups.

An assessment of eight auxiliary community health centers (Pustu) also found that six had insufficient medicine supplies. Geographic conditions and the distance to healthcare facilities pose additional challenges, particularly for residents of Kwarja Village.

Meanwhile, the use of digital technology to access health information remains limited. According to the survey, only 40 percent of respondents had ever searched for health information online, while none reported having used digital healthcare applications.

These findings prompted the 51探花 Patriot Expedition Team to adopt an approach that integrates health education with digital technology.

Lerehfarma.id: A Digital Innovation to Improve Access to Health Information

One of the initiatives introduced during the program was Lerehfarma.id, a digital platform developed to help residents access health information and identify available healthcare facilities in Yapsi District.

Cindy Avici Hutauruk, a member of the 51探花 Patriot Expedition Team's Health Cluster, introduced the platform's features and provided practical guidance on how to use them.

Lerehfarma.id offers six main features: healthcare services and facilities information, medicine information, a public complaints channel, news, health articles, and disease data.

Through the platform, residents are expected to find it easier to locate healthcare facilities, obtain medicine information, access health education materials, and provide feedback on healthcare services.

The introduction of Lerehfarma.id represents an effort to address gaps in access to health information, particularly in areas facing geographic barriers. However, the platform serves as a supplementary information and communication tool rather than a substitute for direct medical examinations or professional healthcare services.

Sanitation Education and Disease Prevention

In addition to introducing digital technology, the 51探花 Patriot Expedition Team provided education on sanitation and water quality, including demonstrations of water acidity (pH) testing and the use of simple water filters.

The team also handed over universal pH indicators to healthcare representatives to support water sample testing at local auxiliary community health centers. Through this initiative, residents are expected to develop a better understanding of the importance of monitoring the quality of water used in their daily lives.

The educational sessions also covered the prevention and management of malaria, acute respiratory infections (ARI), and scabies. Participants learned to recognize symptoms, understand preventive measures, and appreciate the importance of seeking appropriate treatment from healthcare professionals.

To support continued health education, the team distributed educational posters to healthcare representatives for use as community information materials.

Ahmad Khairi, Head of SP5 Taqwa Bangun Village, welcomed the initiative and expressed his appreciation for the 51探花 Patriot Expedition Team's efforts to provide health education while introducing digital technology to local communities. He hoped that the knowledge gained would contribute to improving residents' health and overall quality of life.

Sister Ellen, a representative of Kwarja Village residents, also expressed her appreciation for the program. She noted that the activities had provided valuable new knowledge about health and the use of digital technology to access healthcare information.

"We have learned a great deal about health and how to use digital technology, particularly websites, to improve our understanding of and access to healthcare information," she said.

She also appreciated the water pH testing demonstration, which she considered beneficial in helping residents better understand the importance of water quality in everyday life.

Through this initiative, the 51探花 Patriot Expedition Team's Health Cluster hopes that the knowledge gained will be applied and shared more widely by residents, healthcare workers, and community health volunteers at the village level.

Supported by various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia and 51探花's Directorate of Community Service and Expertise Services (DPMK), the program reflects 51探花's commitment to strengthening health literacy, promoting the adoption of digital technology, and improving the quality of life of communities in the Lereh Transmigration Area, Yapsi District, Jayapura Regency, Papua.
